Heisuke jumps up and rushes over.]

[Charlotte yelps quietly and scurries behind Mikage's leg, huddling worriedly until Mikage crouches down to pat her head.]

Easy there! You've gotta take it slow, y'know. She's just a puppy!

Sorry! [He crouches down and holds out a hand, palm up, close to the ground so Elizabeth can sniff it if she wanted.]

Sorry, I've just never seen anything so cute before. We don't have dogs like these in my world.

[Elizabeth hesitates a moment, then, at Mikage's nudging, wanders out to sniff Heisuke's hand curiously.]

Really? What kind of dogs do you have then?

[He smiles when she comes closer, letting Elizabeth get used to him before he even thinks of moving.]

I dunno, the normal kind. No horns for one. Not a whole lotta different colors, either.

[His smile turns a bit wistful.]

I had one once. Not really a dog, to be truthful, but I had one once.

[Elizabeth is quick to give affection, so after a couple of sniffs she starts giving Heisuke's hand a few licks (or a dozen). She's fair game for pettings now.]

Turned out he was a wolf puppy, not a dog puppy. Took care of 'im the best I could, but he ran off one day.
