Toudou Heisuke

[Sannan is lingering nervously in the background. Heisuke for once seems so serious, and he's not sure if that's a good or a bad thing. What he does know is that this doesn't look very safe at all...]

Toudou-kun, are you sure this is a good idea? [--as he glances helplessly at Tatsu. We are going to die.]

[Tatsunosuke does not have a good feeling about this. No, Tatsunosuke actually has one of those gut-wrenching, crippling, painful feelings he gets when something is about to go completely and terribly wrong. And Yamanami's look doesn't help.]

Just try not to make it mad, Toudou-san. [Tatsu doesn't know if the spirits speak orz yet, and he really doesn't want to find out.]

It's important we learn how to speak with them.

[And he takes the spoon out with a towel, replacing it with a small metal bowl.]

Second attempt - metal bowl. Same time.

[Sannan takes a few steps back and gets ready to run for his life if need be.]

R-right, just be careful. [aside, out of Heisuke's hearing] I thought you wanted to learn healing magic first...

[Tatsunosuke is right there with Yamanami, including the preparing to run for his life part. His legs are still sore from chasing down Tammy, but some things are worth the pain--and for Tatsu, fleeing from an angry lightning spirit ranks right up there with saving Tetsu's virginity.]

Healing magic? [This sounds like a good idea. A spirit that teaches how to heal has to be less angry than one that shoots lightning.] Toudou-san, what about that? Maybe you should go back to trying to learn how to heal first!

[Before he gets them all killed.]

[There's a small arc of lightning and Heisuke's attention is taken by the box again.]

Did you see that? It worked. The spirits must be noticing.

From:

[Sannan jumps noticeably as the lightning flashes.]

Uh...excellent! Yes, excellent...ha...ha... [He looks with horror at the assortment of other metal objects Heisuke has lined up on the kitchen counter.] Toudou-kun, out of curiosity, how far are you planning to go with this?

[Forget jumping. Tatsunosuke is out the door at the first spark. He doesn't go too far though, rejoining Yamanami after the other man asks his question.]

Maybe we can distract him and hide the hotbox before something really bad happens... [Said so only Yamanami can hear, of course.]

As far as is necessary. Once I have contact with one spirit, the others should be easier.

[He takes the bowl out and inspects the black spot on it, then puts it into the sink. Time to put a larger metal bowl into the hot box and set it for a minute.]

From:

[Sannan blanches when he thinks of what Heisuke could do for the other spirits, particularly the fire one.] A-alright.

[whispered back to Tatsu] Maybe...how heavy do you think it is?

[He looks back at the hotbox and makes a sort of strangled ~~shriek~~ noise when he sees that Heisuke already has a larger bowl in -- and that they have an impressive lightning storm going as well.]

[They have to survive the wrath of the lightning spirit before Heisuke can get them killed with the others. Or so Tatsu's logic goes.]

It doesn't look that heavy...

[Oh crap, too late. Tatsu doesn't run out of the room again at least? But he does have his back pressed against the wall farthest from the hotbox.]

Are you sure it's not getting angry in there, Toudou-san?

It isn't smoking.

[And he's completely serious about that. It can't be angry if it isn't smoking. He sits and watches the lightning for a bit and then looks to the counter.]

...Wonder if these would make larger sparks.

[again aside to Tatsu, urgently] The problem is I can't think of anything to distract him with, at least not the...the way he is right now. If Nagakura-kun or Harada-kun were here, maybe.

[Anyone other than him and Tatsu, actually.]

I don't think we need to see larger ones.

From:

Then maybe we should quit while we're ahead. [Before the spirit gets angry and wants to destroy them all.]

...I don't know either. [Tatsu lowers his voice again, though he can't help but agree with Yamanami on their ineffectiveness to be distracting. And just why is Heisuke acting so oddly anyway?

There's no time to think about it though. Not before the phrase "bigger sparks" enters the conversation.]

No, Yamanami-san's right. We should be happy with small sparks! It's generous of the spirit to show us that much, isn't it?

........ [He hears you guys whispering behind his back, but he is more interested in the experiment right now. Instead, he removes the smaller bowl and takes out a bigger one, turning it over in his hands.] .................................

What if it's trying to speak and we aren't giving it a large enough vessel? That sounds right, doesn't it? "Vessel." Like they say at the shrines.

[Look at bowl, look at box, back to bowl. Bowl goes into box. He closes the door and starts pressing buttons to set the time.]

[pained whisper] But we can't just leave him here by himself! [As dangerous as this is, Sannan is more terrified of the idea of Heisuke lighting himself on fire and no one being around to help him in time.]

I don't think that's the...I really don't think that's the case.

From:

[More whispering. Who cares if Heisuke knows about it?] Then we can drag him away? And maybe lock him in a closet until he stops doing crazy things!

...Or. Crazy things like this.

[Oh crap, there's more beeps.]

Toudou-san please! We're just mere humans. It's not our place to try and assume what the spirits want. Really, you should just leave it be!

[He looks back over his shoulder at the two of them, stone-faced like he's been since the experiment started.]

That's why I'm trying to talk to them. It'll let me know when we've gone too far.

[He presses the start button and after a few seconds, electricity arcs again and Heisuke looks back at it.]
